Transportation and charging

The package bundles nodes for charging infrastructure and shared mobility: electric vehicle charging stations from Open Charge Map as well as rental bikes, e-scooters and stations from GBFS feeds of any provider. Both nodes filter spatially to areas you define on a map.

Included nodes

openchargemap

Open Charge Map

Fetches electric vehicle charging stations from the Open Charge Map API and emits them as EVChargingStation objects.

Open node
gbfs

GBFS

Reads rental bikes, e-scooters and stations from GBFS feeds, filters them spatially and emits them through two outputs.

Open node

Installation

npm install @htag/node-red-contrib-hypertegrity-transportation

Alternatively install the package in Node-RED through the palette manager: Menu → Manage palette → Install and search for the package name. The package requires Node-RED 4.0.5 or later and Node.js 20.18 or later.

Shared notes

  • Dependencies: The package uses axios for HTTP requests, geolib for distance and polygon checks of the geographic filters and papaparse to read the GBFS system directory systems.csv. All three are installed automatically with the package.
  • API keys: Open Charge Map requires a free API key and a contact e-mail address as application identifier. Most GBFS feeds are freely accessible; for feeds with authentication the dialog of the GBFS node offers fields for credentials.
  • Editor services: Both edit dialogs show a Leaflet map with OpenStreetMap tiles and use Nominatim for the area search. The GBFS dialog additionally loads the system directory from GitHub. These functions are unavailable in isolated networks.
  • Polling frequency: Charging station data changes rarely (poll hourly to daily), GBFS feeds every minute (interval not shorter than the ttl of the feed). Both nodes are trigger-based and need an Inject node.
  • Data protection: Vehicle ids and positions from GBFS feeds can reveal movement profiles when stored permanently; store them only aggregated or with a short retention. Open Charge Map records of private charging points may point to residential addresses.
  • Metric units: Radii are configured in metres; charging power in kW, ranges in metres.
